Classroom procedures ensure students receive the maximum amount of instructional time in a safe and orderly environment. We learn these on the first day of class and will rehearse them throughout the first few weeks.
I will greet you at the door. I say good morning to you, you say good morning to me, then you enter the classroom.
Make your lunch selection by moving your name into the appropriate column for hot lunch or home lunch and then have a seat at your desk.
(This procedure lets me know you're here!)
After entering the classroom look to the whiteboard for information on our opening activity including the amount of time you have to complete it.
The opening activity will be a journal prompt or worksheet that has been placed on your desk. Begin this work immediately.
When completed, read quietly at your desk until I call time.
(This procedure helps our brains get ready for the day!)
You will always know how long you have to work on an assignment in our class. Our agenda shows the time each block ends so you can manage your own time.
If the block ends, and you have not completed your assignment, stow it neatly inside the work-in-progress (WIP) folder inside your desk.
If you finish another assignment early or find yourself with free time during class it is your responsibility to complete the work in the folder.
(Everything we do in class is important work! We have to try to complete all of it!!)
When you are late, please place your office pass in the mailbox near the door. Immediately go to your seat and look to the whiteboard for instructions. If the instructions are unclear to you, get your WIP folder out and begin working. This will signal to me that you need help and I will come to you as quickly as possible.
(It's not a problem that you're late. Get to work as soon as possible!)
The flow of our day will be located in the same place on the white board everyday. Here you can expect to find: the subjects we'll be covering throughout the day, the time we will be covering them, and what our goal is for the lesson. Check here before asking about the day's lesson.
(I work hard to make sure you know what we're doing throughout the day. Look at our agenda before asking me!!)
If you're lost on the assignment or can't find the instructions on the whiteboard ask three of your classroom family members for help before asking me. This ensures that I can do my job (teaching) with as few interruptions as possible.
(Your classroom family is a great resource! Asking them helps me do what I do best (TEACH)!)
